In my A2E manual it says Flash firing synchronizes with the travel of the second shutter curtain, providing a more natural effect when using slow shutter speeds. Would someone be so kind as to explain this statement? This is custom function CF14. Thank you in advance, Gary Drainville Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Gary, during a long exposure, if the flash fires after the 1st curtain opens you will have the ambient 'blur' after the flash, which looks strange. (see A) If the flash fires prior to the second curtain closing, the ambient 'blur' leads into the flash exposure. This is more natural (to many) and results in 'motion-streaks'. The curtain sync mode is really only going to affect exposures where _object_s are moving enough so they are visibly blurred during the exposure. Try using it in Av or Tv mode w/ a 1/4s exposure of a moving car locked off on a tripod. The background will be exposed properly (in theory) and the car will streak across the _frame_ and be frozen by the flash pop just before the curtain closes. ( Car moving right = C- ) . = trail (ambient blur) C-...... (figure A) [1st curatin sync] ......C- (figure

[2nd curtain sync] I think (by am not sure) that the 540EZ manual and likely the A2 manual have a sample photo showing this. Cheers, ...Alan [see signature to note reply instructions]
