http://www.ncsu.edu The Industrial Extension Service (IES) supports the state?s economic development by diffusing engineering science and technology to North Carolina business, industry, and government for the enhancement of quality, productivity, and environmental protection; by developing and delivering superior professional development programs that meet the continuing education needs of professional engineers, scientists, consultants, and technical managers; and by advocating the use of engineering science and technology for the promotion of both economic development and quality of life in the State of North Carolina. IES performs this mission through technical assistance, information, dissemination, referrals, applied research, forums, demonstrations, publications, workshops, seminars, conferences, and video_base_d credit and non-credit programs. The extension programs are integrated into the College of Engineering?s academic and research programs so as to involve both faculty and students to enhance their scholarship while benefiting industry. IES, with budgets totaling over $10M, employs over 80 people and contracts with numerous consultants and other organizations to perform services. Position De_script_ion The Manager of Computer Network Systems and Extension Specialist, who reports directly to the Executive Director of IES, is responsible for the management of engineering of all IES? computer systems and network and for providing industry assistance and continuing education on computer networking systems. The position will also design and oversee the installation of computer networks. Current facilities include a campus-wide network with over six Windows NT servers and over 90 users, and a statewide network including over six remote offices. ? Responsible for the computer systems management and design of the IES computing network and its integration into other networks. ? Maintain all IES computer networks to assure high quality and minimize downtime ? Plan and design advanced computer applications such as interactive computer-_base_d videoconferencing, digital computer networking, multimedia platforms, and Internet / Intranet networking. ? Maintain high level computer network and design complex computer network systems ? Manage the IES computer network budget and procurement of hardware and software ? Direct and train the IES Computer network support staff and assess needs, plan and deliver computer training for all IES associates ? Provide technical assistance and information to business, industry and local governments in North Carolina on computer systems and networking issues ? Plan and coordinate continuing education programs on computer networking and teach workshops on computer systems for industry engineers, managers and key personnel. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems and 4 years of successful experience in the design, implementation, and management of computer networks or equivalent. Must have thorough experience with Ethernet networking, TCP/IP protocols, client / server systems, Windows NT , Windows 95 and Internet/Intranet applications and networking.
