Ok, so its been a long time since I used a calculator with anything more than a few basic functions, ok, I am probably missing some really elemental piece of info... Doing some examples from the TCPIP Exam Notes from Sybex and thought, hey best get used to using the calculator for the exam, not needed it before and as my math is so bad, its going to be mandatory... Then I hit a few nagging problems... leading zeros disappear in binary mode- eh? When ANDing some of the examples they seemed to be one lower than the answer, now I would usually trust the calculator, but my binary is not that bad, so where did it go? So, anybody out there got a good, simple, informative way to use the bloody thing correctly, and a simple check to carry out its doing its functions correctly...  Hopefully before I go totally round the bend? I thought it was very straightfoward. Yes, leading zeros are not displayed.  What calculator ever did, though ?? AND seems to work for me.  I did 10101010 AND 11110000  and got 10100000.

well, 00000000 in binary is 0 in decimal. ANDING only results in a 1 when both digits are a 1.. so 0 AND 0 = 0 0 AND 1 = 0 1 AND 0 = 0 1 AND 1 = 1 So         11001100 AND     11111111 is            11001100 or, if you prefer,            11001100 AND  00000000 is        00000000 To convert between decimal and binary, just click on the Dec or Bin buttons at the top left  ?  Not sure what you meant. in binary mode, type 11111111.  (8 ones)    now click on the Dec button, it should read 255.
