Just as a matter of interest - when welding on a car with a arc welder is it necessary to talk any steps to protect the electronic ignition and other electronic components. Just wondering about any high voltage spikes which might occur? John

electronic components. Just wondering about any high voltage spikes which might occur? Remove earth terminal on battery. Depending on where your welding, have a fire extinguisher handy too. Dave & a bucket of water. It's cheaper. But you still want the fire extingusher. It might never pay for itself but it's still cheaper than your NCB & you should find a triclass foam one for under ?50. Dry powder ones make a hell of a mess & CO2's bugger all good at putting fires out.

Remove earth terminal on battery. Depending on where your welding, have a fire extinguisher handy too. Dave Removing the earth terminal will not prevent damage to electronic components.........the only way to do that is to either remove the part entirely, or to fit an anti spike device over the battery terminals. However the liklihood of damage is not great, but in the case of ECUs costing several hundred pounds is certainly worth bearing in mind. Chris
