dot matrix printers How to get DESCENT print on Epson dot matrix printers? (was Re: View from Nashville ..)
- - Talking about printer drivers - some of us still use 9 pin dot matrix printers. - - - - Have you ever seen how horrible the printing is from OS/2 (eg from Newsreader - - or WEBexplorer) on one of these printers? Yes I am using the highest - - resolution. - - I agree. My 24 pin printer output looks like crap with OS/2 printer drivers - compared to Windows (any flavour), and in fact all the resolutions it's - capable of (which windows drivers have) aren't included in the os/2 OMNI - driver. Sigh. Sometimes i wish OS/2 wasn't such a good OS, because things - like this bug me. Then i have to choose, do i want nice printer output on - my 24 pin printer -or- a decent OS... sigh. - Does anyone know how to get descent print (USING WARP) from a 9 (for me) or 24 pin (for Guenther) Epson compatible printer? Thanks Giovanni

Thanks Giovanni Hi there! I use a DOS program called Freedom of Press to print Post_script_-files under OS/2 to printers without the post_script_ option. I installed the Apple LaserWriter Printer Driver and print to a file. Then I start the Post_script_ Emulator to produce the output. Freedom of Press also supports Epson printers. Hope this helps Rene Pawlitzek, ETH creator of LEEPS, http://129.173.21.68

Does anyone know how to get descent print (USING WARP) from a 9 (for me) or 24 pin (for Guenther) Epson compatible printer? If you want to get descent print, you might want to try lowering your printer while it's printing.  Or get a really long cable and power cord and throw it out of a high-rise office window.   OTOH if you want to get DECENT print, I suggest ditching the dot matrix completely.  The only real reason to use a dot matrix nowadays is to print on forms or some other preprinted material.  A 300 dpi or 600dpi inkjet is dirt cheap, and you can get 600 dpi-class laser printers for <$500. And don't tell me all you can afford is a dot matrix printer

It seems to be much better-written than any of the Epson drivers. Or buy a cheap inkjet, if you can. Nobody is writing dot drivers anymore, but a lot of people are writing inkjet drivers. Buddy

There is a fix for printer drivers specifically. It's not the regular fix pack XR_W019 or whatever, but XR_P*16 I have an Epson Action Printer 3250 and had a problem at the very beginning of the document
